3003-H14 aluminum alloy overview for buyers: chemical composition, physical and mechanical properties, coil and strip forms, applicable standards and quotation requirements.
Al-Mn coil and strip for stamping, forming and general industrial fabrication.
Aikerly supplies 3003-H14 aluminum coil and slit strip for formed components, heat-transfer applications and general industrial processing. This page explains the alloy, available forms, chemical composition, physical and mechanical properties, applicable standards and key requirements to confirm before quotation.
3003 is a non-heat-treatable aluminum-manganese alloy. H14 indicates strain hardening to a half-hard condition. The temper is achieved through controlled work hardening, typically during rolling, to balance strength and formability.
3003-H14 is selected for its moderate strength, formability and corrosion resistance rather than high structural strength. It is widely used in general-purpose coil and strip applications, offering a practical balance of cost, fabrication performance and corrosion resistance.
Coil and slit strip, subject to supply availability
Typical thickness: approximately 0.2–6 mm, subject to specification and availability
Width, coil inner diameter, outer diameter and coil weight confirmed in quotation
Surface condition: mill finish or other agreed condition, subject to availability
Slitting and cut-to-length processing, subject to confirmed capability
Export packing: moisture-resistant protection, coil supports and suitable outer packaging, as agreed
Special thicknesses, narrow slit widths, edge quality, dimensional tolerances and coil dimensions require confirmation before quotation.
Typical composition limits for 3003 aluminum alloy under commonly referenced wrought-aluminum standards are listed below. The governing product standard and material test certificate determine the applicable acceptance requirements.
Mn: 1.0–1.5%
Cu: 0.05–0.20%
Si: ≤ 0.60%
Fe: ≤ 0.70%
Zn: ≤ 0.10%
Others, each: ≤ 0.05%
Others, total: ≤ 0.15%
Al: balance
Manganese is the principal alloying addition and contributes to strength through solid-solution strengthening. The alloy also provides good general corrosion resistance and formability. Copper contributes to the alloy's strength, but 3003 is not strengthened by conventional solution heat treatment and aging.
Actual chemical composition must comply with the governing material standard and be verified against the material test certificate.
Typical reference values for 3003 aluminum alloy at room temperature include:
Density: approximately 2.73 g/cm³
Melting range: approximately 643–654°C
Modulus of elasticity: approximately 69 GPa
Thermal conductivity: approximately 159 W/m·K
Thermal expansion (20–100°C): approximately 23.2 × 10⁻⁶/K
Electrical resistivity: approximately 0.0416 μΩ·m
Poisson's ratio: approximately 0.33
These are typical reference values rather than guaranteed acceptance values for every product. Density is roughly one-third that of steel, while the alloy's relatively high thermal conductivity supports its use in heat-transfer and radiator-related components. Physical properties may vary slightly with composition, temperature and reference source.
Typical tensile strength: approximately 140–180 MPa
Typical yield strength: approximately 115 MPa minimum in commonly published H14 product data, subject to thickness and governing standard
Elongation: depends on thickness, gauge length and applicable product standard
Formability: suitable for many bending and moderate stamping operations; tighter radii and deep drawing require review
Weldability: generally good using appropriate welding procedures
Machinability: relatively limited compared with free-machining alloys; extensive precision machining is not a primary application
Mechanical properties are thickness-dependent. Published product data for H14 show tensile strength around 140–180 MPa and minimum yield strength around 115 MPa, but elongation requirements vary with thickness and test method. These figures must not be treated as universal guarantees for all coil specifications. Confirm the required minimum values against the applicable standard and material certificate.
3003-H14 is quoted against the standard stated in the purchase order. Common references include:
ASTM B209 — aluminum and aluminum-alloy sheet and plate
EN 485-2 / EN 573-3 — mechanical properties and chemical composition of wrought aluminum and aluminum alloys
GB/T 3880 — Chinese aluminum and aluminum-alloy plates, sheets and strips
JIS H4000 — Japanese aluminum and aluminum-alloy sheets, plates and strips
These standards have different scopes and acceptance requirements and should not be assumed to be fully interchangeable. The certificate should identify the governing standard, alloy designation, temper, product thickness and applicable acceptance criteria. For third-party inspection or customer qualification, confirm the required documentation before ordering.
Stamping and forming: suitable for many bending and stamping operations. Tight radii, deep drawing and complex geometry require review against thickness, tooling and part design.
Slitting: strip width, slit-edge quality, burr limits and width tolerances should be agreed before processing.
Coil processing: coil ID, OD, weight, winding direction and handling requirements should be confirmed for downstream equipment.
Corrosion: good resistance in many general industrial and atmospheric environments. Suitability for specific chemicals, continuous moisture exposure or elevated temperatures requires application review.
Surface treatment: mill finish is a common supply condition. Coating, cleaning or additional finishing must be confirmed against the actual supply route.

Application suitability depends on required dimensions, forming severity, surface quality and service environment.
For general-purpose coil and strip requiring moderate strength and formability: 3003-H14.
For improved bending and forming performance in a softer condition: 3003-O, subject to availability and forming requirements.
For higher-strength sheet with good corrosion resistance: 5052-H32, subject to design and forming requirements.
For applications requiring lower strength and greater formability, including some deep-drawing operations: consider 3003-O or a suitable 1xxx-series alloy, subject to part geometry and process review.
Grade or temper substitution requires approval against the drawing, forming process, service conditions and governing standard.
