5052-H32 grade overview for buyers: available forms, typical properties, forming and welding characteristics, applicable standards and quotation requirements.
Aikerly supplies 5052-H32 aluminum sheet, cut to size or project-based. This page explains the grade, available forms, applicable standards and key requirements to confirm before quotation.
5052 is a non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium (Al-Mg) alloy. H32 temper indicates strain hardening followed by stabilization. It is commonly selected for corrosion resistance, forming and welding rather than high structural strength.
Chemical Composition
Limits below follow the common export standards for 5052 (ASTM B209 / EN 573-3). The mill certificate should state the governing standard and heat analysis.
Mg: 2.20–2.80%
Cr: 0.15–0.35%
Cu: ≤ 0.10%
Si: ≤ 0.25%
Fe: ≤ 0.40%
Mn: ≤ 0.10%
Zn: ≤ 0.10%
Ti: ≤ 0.15% (EN 573-3; ASTM B209 does not list Ti as a specified element)
Others, each: ≤ 0.05%
Others, total: ≤ 0.15%
Al: balance
Mg and Cr are the intentional alloying additions. Cu is deliberately held low because copper-bearing phases accelerate pitting and galvanic attack in chloride environments. This is the composition basis for the grade's marine-adjacent corrosion performance.
Physical Properties
Typical values at room temperature for 5052-H32:
Density: approximately 2.68 g/cm³
Melting range: approximately 605–650°C
Modulus of elasticity: approximately 69–70 GPa
Thermal conductivity: approximately 138 W/m·K
Thermal expansion (20–100°C): approximately 23.7 × 10⁻⁶ /KElectrical resistivity: approximately 0.049–0.050 μΩ·m
Density is roughly one-third that of steel. Thermal conductivity is moderate for aluminum alloys — lower than 6061-T6, which should be considered where the sheet is used as a heat-transfer or thermal-management component.
Key Mechanical Properties
Typical tensile strength: approximately 210–260 MPa
Typical yield strength: approximately 160–180 MPa
Typical elongation: approximately 7–12%
EN 485-2 minimum for H32: Rm ≥ 210 MPa, Rp0.2 ≥ 130 MPa; minimum elongation rises with thickness from 6% to 12%
Good bending and forming in H32 condition
Weldable by TIG/MIG; 5356 filler commonly used
Acceptance values depend on the standard, sheet thickness and whether typical or minimum values apply.
Sheet thickness: approximately 0.5–6 mm, subject to availability
Standard sheet or cut-to-size
Mill finish, brushed, protective film, anodized or other agreed finish, subject to availability
Export packing: moisture-resistant paper, pallets or wooden cases
Typical tensile strength: approximately 210–260 MPa
Typical yield strength: approximately 160–180 MPa
Typical elongation: approximately 7–12%
Good corrosion resistance in many industrial and marine-adjacent environments
Good bending and forming characteristics in H32 temper
Good weldability using TIG or MIG processes; 5356 filler metal is commonly used where appropriate
Mechanical properties depend on sheet thickness, applicable standard and test requirements. Confirm the specified minimum values and acceptance criteria before ordering.
5052-H32 is supplied against the standard and product requirements agreed in the purchase order. Common reference standards include:
ASTM B209
EN 485-2 / EN 573-3
GB/T 3880
JIS H4000
The applicable standard, alloy designation, temper, thickness and acceptance requirements must be confirmed for the order. These standards should not be assumed to be fully interchangeable. Material certification should identify the agreed standard and applicable acceptance criteria.
Forming: Good bending performance in H32 temper. Tight bend radii and deep drawing require review against thickness, tooling and part geometry.
Welding: Generally good weldability. The heat-affected zone may lose some strength due to welding.
Corrosion: Good resistance in many environments. Wet contact with dissimilar metals, including steel or copper alloys, requires consideration of galvanic corrosion.
Anodizing: Can be anodized for functional purposes, but color and appearance may vary with material condition and surface preparation.

Marine-adjacent fabricated parts
For higher-strength machined parts: consider 6061-T6.
For forming applications where lower strength and cost are priorities: consider 3003.
For higher-strength marine structures: consider 5083, subject to design requirements and drawing approval.
Grade substitution requires approval against the drawing, service conditions and governing standard.
